Type 1 Diabetes By:Abbey Type 1 diabetes is a chronic auto-immune disease when the pancreas does not produce insulin to control blood sugar levels properly. Some of the symptoms of this disease are increased thirst and frequent urination, extreme hunger, weight loss, fatique and blurred vision. Scientists say that if you get this disease you are born with or develop a marker in your genetics that is triggered by a common cold or the flu. There are several ways to get dignosed with this disease. Some are a fasting plasma glucose test which measures the amount of glucose in the blood after fasting for eight hours, a casual plasma glucose test which is when the doctor tests your blood sugar at a random time, and a hemoglobin A1c which measures your blood sugar for the last three months. There are no cures for this disease but there is a way to control it. Every day you would have to test your blood sugar and get insulin every day by a syringe, a insulin pen, an insulin pump, or an infusion port. When soembody has this disease you would want to learn how to eat healthy, get the proper exercise, keep track of your blood sugar, take your medicine, if prescribed every day, keep all appointments with your health care provider, and make sure that your blood pressure is under control. If a type 1 diabetic does not take care of this disease properly there could be various complications such as heart and blood vessel disease, nerve damage, eye and foot damage. I choose this disease because I have type 1 diabetes. This disease is very close to my heart and I wish I had never had to learn about it but this experience has taught me much more about this disease and I am greatful to learn more about it and have such a good experience doing it.
