Sleepwalking is commonly seen in children, in fact 30% of children do. When children between the ages of 3-10 sleepwalk it is usually just part of child development. When it is a part of child development docters do not really consider it a disorder. However if sleepwalking occurences carry on into pre-teen and teenage years that it is when it is considered a disorder and further treatment or prcedurres should be taken. Only 7% of adults sleepwalk.

How do you keep a Sleepwalker safe?
lock all windows
lock all doors exiting the house
sleepwalker's room's floor should be clean and free of sharp objects
place a safety gate at the top of the stairs
sleepwalkers keys should be hidden (sleepwalker should not know ehere they are)
bell or alarm should be placed on bedroom door
sleepwalker should not sleep on top bunk
How do you limit and stop sleepwalking occurences?
relax at bedtime
listen to relaxation tapes
medittate
listen to soft calming music
make a regular bedtime (and wake up time)
limit amount of drinks at bedtime (no caffine)
bedroom should be quiet and a comfortable place for sleeping
anticipatory awakenings- waking the victim up 15-45 minutes before usual occurences. keep the sleepwalker up the length of usual occurence
