Scoliosis
Pathology
Scoliosis is the curving of the spine.
The spine can curve to the left, right, or both.
Scoliosis was discovered by Hippocrates, a Greek physician.
The cause of scoliosis is not known but many peopele believe it's genetic.
Researchers have recently discovered a gene that underlines the condition of Scoliosis.
The gene is called CHD7 and it often causes the C and S shaped curves of Scoliosis.
There are three main types of Scoliosis,Ideopathic, Congenital, and Neuromuscular.
Signs and Symptoms
unevenness of shoulders, hips, or waist
leaning slightly to one side
one of both shoulder blades sticking out
back pain
Diagnosis
a doctor, nurse, or specilist can diagnose Scoliosis
a tool called a Scoliometer is often used to check someone for Scoliosis
when checking someone for Scoliosis the doctor runs their finger in a straight line down his or her back checking for curves.
