Lung Cancer~Lung Cancer is a form of cancer that occurs when the cancerous cells quickly divide and form new cells. These cells eventually form a tumor that rapidly grows larger. ~Lung Cancer is the most poular form of cancer in the United States. Around 371,000 people are diagnosed in the U.S a year, about 158,600 of these people die. Risk Factors~The leading cause of this cancer is tobacco use. 89% of Lung Cancer cases are caused by smoking ( second hand or first hand). ~The second leading cause of Lung Cancer is radon gas. Many miners tend to develop Lung Cancer because of the uranium found in mines. Around 23,000 people die a year because of Lung Cancer caused by radon gas.~Some other common causes are being exposed to asbestos or coal dust. Some common signs and symptoms are constantly coughing, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, chest pain, weight loss, and fatigue. Diagnosis~Lung Cancer is very hard to diagnose because the symptoms do not occur until the cancer has progressed into the later stages. When the symptoms do finnaly occur, they usually begin with the milder symptoms which could be confused with a cold or the flu. ~To diagnose Lung Cancer doctors may do some blood tests. After the blood tests patients usuallyare given a physical exam. Doctors will prepare x-rays to look for any signs of Lung Cancer. Treatment~There are three common treatment options for Lung Cancer. The three options are surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. There are many forms of surgery. The most common forms are wedge resection, Lobectomy, and Pneumonectomy. There are also many forms of Chemothereapy and r adiation available depending on the stage and complications of the cancer. By:Rachel
