Leukemia Cancer

Leukemia
Leukemia is a cancer of the blood cells.
It starts in the bone marrow, the bone marrow is where your blood cells are made.
The bone marrow is the soft tissue inside most bones. Most red blood cells are made in the bone marrow.
Leukemia Cells
When you have leukemia your bone marrow starts to make a lot of abnormal white blood cells. These cells are called leukemia cells, they do not do the work of the normal blood cells. Over time the leukemia cells may crowd out the normal cells. Crowding can lead to serious problems such as anemia, bleeding and infections. The leukemia cells can spread to the lymph nodes or other organs and cause swelling or pain.
Symptoms
Symptoms can depend on what type of leukemia you have or how severe of a case you have. Some of the most common symptoms are: fever or night sweats, bruising or bleeding easily, bone or joint pain, feeling very tired or weak, and losing weight and not feeling hungry. The symptoms can be all around the body including the liver or spleen. Treatment will depend on on the type of leukemia you have, the cells characteristics, the extend of the disease, past treatments, your symptoms, and your overall health. The goal of treatment is to destory the leukemia cells and to allow normal cells to form again in your bone marrow.
